A six session introduction to basic techniques and equipment of digital, 16mm, and Super 8mm filmmaking. The classes will consist of hands-on technical demonstrations, group discussions, film screenings, and presentations of participant's work. The emphasis will be on low-budget production techniques and the development of a personal aesthetic. No previous filmmaking experience is necessary. The Millennium will provide in-house film equipment.
Class Schedule
Week 1: THE MOVING IMAGE - Formats (film/video). Discussion of concepts and issues.
Week 2: CAMERAS, LENSES, FILM STOCKS
Week 3: EXPOSURE, LIGHT METERS, LIGHTING, FILTERS
Week 4: BASIC EDITING, BENCH SET-UP, SPLICING, DIGITAL EDITING, FINAL CUT PRO
Week 5: SOUND RECORDING, MICROPHONES, PROJECTORS
Week 6: SOUND EDITING, FILM LAB, PRESENTATIONS OF MEMBERS' PROJECTS
